BUSTED: Last Member of $5M Colombian Jewelry Heist Crew Pleads Guilty in Miami

The last piece of the puzzle just fell into place, fam. Leroy Ortega, aka โ€œEl Enano,โ€ 43, from Miami, copped a plea yesterday for his part in a massive jewelry heist ring that raked in over $5 million. He's the final member of an 11-strong crew indicted as part of Operation Boujee Bandits. According to court docs, this transnational Colombian crew had it down to a science: theyโ€™d tail jewelry salespeople from the International Jewelry Exchanges or Seybold Building, rent cars with fake IDs, and hit 'em hard ๐Ÿ™…. Ortega admitted to two robberies: one where he and his boys took a photographerโ€™s gear thinking it was jewels, and another where they nabbed $125,000 worth of the real deal from a salesman in Miami Beach. U.S. Attorney Jason A. Reding Quiรฑones had this to say: โ€œThese defendants operated as part of a coordinated South American theft group that targeted hardworking jewelry couriers and sales professionals transporting high-value diamonds, watches, and other merchandise. They followed their victims from jewelry exchanges, used fraudulent identification to rent vehicles, and relied on force and violence to steal valuable inventory.โ€
