RCMP Cpl. Barry Kirby said the investigation will take weeks to sort out the details, but they already know at least three of the weapons were illegally trafficked. “You can collect as many guns as you want, legally,” Kirby noted. “But when it turns into trafficking and unsafe storage, that’s where it gets sketchy.”
The case started with a 73-year-old Dauphin man facing U.S. firearms charges. The RCMP followed the trail and found more illegal weapons at Mark's place. Scott McMurchy, commanding officer of Manitoba RCMP, emphasized the danger: “These unregistered guns can fuel violence and support organized crime. We’re here to keep our communities safe.”
